![tlie right way, guide us in the path which leads to eternal life, through our blessed Saviour, and keep ns steadfast in the same to our lives’ end.] Grant that all the trials and afflictions of this mortal life may work together for our good; and that they may be the means, in Thy hands, of humbling us, of softening our cold, hard hearts, of arousing our sleeping consciences, and of leading us to our Saviour. Oh, make them instrumental in taking us off from leading a sinful, worldly, careless, un- profitable life, and in bringing us into the happy life of children of God. Oh, grant that these blessed effects may be manifested in our hearts and lives, and then throughout eternity we shall have abundant cause to bless and magnify Thy Holy Name for those very afflictions which now seem so grievous to us.
