The longer he has lived the more he has ex¬ perienced the truth and propriety of the remarks it contains. He flatters himself, ivith the hope, that this new Edition will be read with profit, when the hand which writes this line shall be mouldered to dust. f Scarborough, Sth Sept., 1821. The rapid sale of the second edition of this little work has far ex¬ ceeded the expectations of its author, who, with his gratitude to God and the public, begs leave to insert an extract in this third edition, from the very excelle^it and well-written life of one whom he dearly loved, and with whom he had the happiness to be jmrsonally acquainted, more than half a century. (^fc.—Mr. Hey evinced as much logical precision and meta¬ physical acumen at the age of~eighty-two, as at any period of his life. *‘Much of the freshness and vigour which he so long retained may be ascribed under the blessing of Divine Providence to his Early rising, his strict habits of temperance, the equanimity of his temper, and to that internal peaces, composure, and serenity, which are the concomitants of a holy and devout life.” (Vide page 19.)
