Meanwhile many medical ijractitioners are already giving the treatment at the request of jjarents, and consider that they are obtaining good results. Enteric E'ever One notification of typhoid fever was received, and none of para- typhoid fever. Tlie case of tyifiioid fever was in a young man whose infection did not appear likely to have been cbntracted in the district. The ])atient was a keen oarsman, and a suspicious circumstance of his history was frequent and close contact w ith the River Thames, in the course of which water may have been imlnbed. This notification gives the district an incidence rate of 0.05, compared with one of 0.02 for England and Wales. Tuberculosis Twenty-two names were added to the tuberculosis register during the year. They include fourteen of persons already domiciled in the district and eight of persons who came to live here from other areas in which they had already been notified. Eighteen of the notifications related to the pulmonary form of the disease and four to non-pulmonary. Seven deaths occurred from pulmonary tuberculosis, reiiresenting an annual death rate of 0.34 per 1,000 population. No deaths were caused by non-pulmonary tuberculosis. The total tuberculosis death rate of 0.34 compared with a rate of 0.55 for England and Wales.
