    Lor 608 —continued the illuminated borders somewhat shaved at top and sides, the faces of one or two of the miniatures rubbed, red morocco, g. e. (126 mm. by 90 mm.) EARLY XIV CENT. A FINELY DECORATED MANUSCRIPT OF AN UNUSUAL TYPE. The miniatures and historiated initials are drawn in a good style, the faces in outline and beautifully coloured in a style closely allied to the Flemish illuminators of the period. The MS. is localised in the neighbourhood of Metz by the Calendar, which contains Clement, Nov. 23 (in red); Pacient, Jan. 8; Legonce, 18 Feb.; Felix, 21 Feb.; Arnoul, 16 Aug.; and Gury (Goeric), 19 Sept., all Bishops of Metz, and the distinctively Metz saints Sereine (Serena), 29 Jan. and Waldree (Waldrada), 5 May. The subjects of the seven miniatures are: Lauds. Christ before Pilate; Prime. Scourging of Christ; Tierce. Christ bearing the Cross; Seat. Christ nailed to the Cross; None. Crucifixion with the Virgin and 8. John; Vespers. Descent from the Cross; Compline. The Anointing of Christ’s body (an exceedingly rare subject). [See FRONTISPIECE. | Other Properties.
