    i am aware that a celebrated fcene in Shak{peare* may be urged againft this conclufion, but Shak- fpeare, though certainly well acquainted even with, many of the minutiz of Englith shiftory, can hardly be deemed a decifive evidence in. a cafe of this kind,} and it appears by no means improbable that inorder to increafe the intereft of his piece, he pofible that he fhould have been twenty years in confine- ment there, as he lived only two years after that period.
