The present copy, lately the property of Mr. Vere L. Oliver, is referred to on pp. 3 and 4 of the Introduction, and is in the same handwriting as the B.M. Manuscript. The Author visited Antigua, St. Kitts, and in both islands she took a large share in the social life and gives many interesting details of her entertain- ment and the people she met. In March, 1775, she reached Shawfield, her brother’s estate, 16 miles from Wilmington, North Carolina, where she wit- nessed the outbreak of the War of Independence and the flight of the Loyalist Governor, Mr. Martin, escaping herself only with difficulty. iil JOURNAL of a Lapy of Quanity, edited by E.
