    Blackbee's Improvements in Surgical Instruments termed Specula. SPECIFICATION in pursuance of the conditions of the Letters Patent, • filed by the said Robert Blackbee in the Great Seal Patent Office on the 14th December 1870. TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, I, Robert 5 Blackbee, of Dalston, in the County of Middlesex, send greeting. WHEREAS Her most Excellent Majesty Queen Victoria, by Her Letters Patent, bearing date the Eourteenth day of June, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy, in the thirty-third year of Her reign, did, for Herself, Her heirs and successors, give and 10 grant unto me, the said Robert Blackbee, Her special licence, that I, the said Robert Blackbee, my executors, administrators, and assigns, or such others as I, the said Robert Blackbee, my executors, administrators, and assigns, should at any time agree with, and no others, from time to time and at all times thereafter during the term therein expressed, 15 should and lawfully might make, use, exercise, and vend, within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Channel Islands, and Isle of Man, an Invention for “ Improvements in the Construction of Surgical Instruments known as Specula,” upon the condition (amongst others) that I, the said Robert Blackbee, my executors or administrators, 20 by an instrument in writing under my, or their, or one of their hands and seals, should particularly describe and ascertain the nature of the said Invention, and in what manner the same was to be performed, and cause the same to be filed in the Great Seal Patent Office within six calendar months next and immediately after the date of the said 25 Letters Patent. i A J l . * • - • . i. NOW KNOW YE, that I, the said Robert Blackbee, do hereby declare- the nature of the said Invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement, that is to say :— 30 This Invention consists of a skeleton speculum formed of German* silver wire in such a manner that when introduced into the vagina by its own resiliency it affords an uninterrupted view of the whole of the parts to be examined. The following is an example of the construction of the specula above referred to :—I shape a certain length of hard drawn 35 German silver wire in such a manner as to form a skeleton speculum consisting of two pairs of blades, namely, the one pair lateral, and the other pair, one of which is superior and the other inferior, which two
