The Greeks have been moft particular in defcribing external affections of the head; but miflead us, by applying new names to the fame difeafe, in different {ituations, or different {tages of its progrefs. This will. appear from comparing their accounts of Pityriafis, Ceria, Achores, Meliceris, Melitagra; Exanthemata, Helcydria, and Pfydracia Capitis; Sycofe and Liche- nofe tubercles of the chin; Madarofis, Milphofis, Pti- lofis, Alopecia, and Ophiafis. Of the difeafes of the eyes, teeth and gums; alfo of Apthz and other affec- tions of the tongue; of Polypi, Ozzna, &c. their de- {criptions are minutely accurate. Several external blemifhes, not ranking as difeafes, are alfo mentioned by them, as Ephelides, Phaci, Chalazia, Thymia, Pelio- mata, Celides, Rhagades, Tyli, oe Acrochor- dones, &c.
