Once it is realised that matter has given rise to life and mind, the old idea that matter, life and mind are independent entities passes away and the Cartesian dualisms of matter and life, matter and mind, and life and mind no longer exist. All three are fundamentally and genetically one, with different expressions in time, constituting a monistic trinity with a common basis and origin in pure thought, which after all may be only another name for spirit. The great principle of indeterminacy in nature may thus be tentatively interpreted as the natural mode of action and mani¬ festation of pure thought or spirit in matter-life- mind, while determinism, which is none the less real, represents an inner and secondary principle based on the geometrical mode of action of the present human intellect. It may be that the discovery in our time of scientific indeterminacy and relativity foreshadows the coming of the next great step in the creative evolution of mind, far surpassing and transcending the present conceptual and deterministic_intellect of Man.
