    § VL The astonishment excited by his researches^ relative to animal re-productions, had not yet subsided, when Spallanzani piibhshed a small tract on the circulation of the blood*. This performance was dedicated to 1 Jailer, as the fruit of a studious perusal of his immortal pro- ductions relative to that miportant function. The Salamrtnders bec-ame the victims of his rclentiess curiosity. Spallanzani first drew thcni from the happy obscurity they had, liitherto, en- joyed, and communicated to them a share of the celebrity, whicli seemed exclusively appropriated to the I'Vogs.
