    Massage in Joint Affections. There seems to be a general concensus of opinion that massage is well adapted for the treatment of certain chronic joint affections, and most of those I saw treated by Von Mosengeil were such as would in this country be considered incurable, or would drift into the hands of bOne-setters. Reibmayr has •demonstrated its value in chronic synovitis, whilst Norstroms article on '^Massages dans les Maladies des Articulations et leur annexes' is well known. Massage and friction with effleurage is the method employed. Many distinguished surgeons are now employing this mode of treatment, and will presumably in due course publish their experiences. There is a curious work which gives some very interesting information on the use of various forms of friction in the treatment of sprains and joint af- fections generally.
