    minute animals which throng the sea, hut which are invisible without the aid of high microscopic powers. And truly, when from a lofty station on board a ship we survey a space of many square miles, and see every portion of its surface gleaming and flashing in living light; or mark the pathway of the vessel ploughing up from fathoms deep her radiant furrow, so filled with luminous points, that, like the milky way in the heavens, all individuality is lost in the ge- neral blaze, and reflect that wherever on the broad sea, that furrow happened to be traced, the result would be the same ; one can scarcely conceive a more magnificent idea of the grandeur, the unimaginable immensity of the Creation of God. “ O Lord, how manifold are thy works ! in wisdom hast thou made them all. The earth is full of thy riches: so is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships : there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
