    Committee discussed at some length with colleagues both in the U.S. and abroad who would be the best individual in the world to present a review lecture on the contributions physics has made to the biological sciences and you were the unanimous choice of the Committee. We sin cerely hope you will accept the invitation of the U.S. National Committee to speak on this subject on Friday, September 22, 1972. We hope that because of your early connections with physics you still consider your self a physicist and will honor us by your presence. The U.S. National Committee of IUPAP will be delighted to pay all your travel expenses to attend the 14th IUPAP General Conference. The number of delegates who have attended previous IUPAP General Assemblies has usually been about 150. We hope to increase the number who will attend the Scientific Program of the 1972 General Assembly by a factor of three or four so that the audience you would speak to should be substantial. We realize, however, that the total impact of a single lecture on physics to four or five hundred scientists will be practically negligible. Therefore, we are arranging to have published a 50th Anni versary Volume of the IUPAP General Assembly Proceedings to present the collection of papers and discussions in a dignified and scholarly fashion. Professor Sanborn C. Brown of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will be editor of the proceedings. We would appreciate an answer to this invitation by January 15, 1972, to me at the above address with a copy to my office at Columbia University. My address at Columbia is: Professor W.W.
