    completely clofed the bites of the leeches. The whole head was now lhaved ; and at three o'clock P. M. was covered by a large bliller. From this period, the fits recurred at fhort intervals; and during the time of their re- miflion, which fcarcely ever exceeded half an hour, great reftlefnefs and ftertorous breath- ing took place, together with that appearance of the countenance which occurs in apo- plexy. No change happened till about three o'clock A; M. of the 25th, when the blirter began to difcharge freely, and the reftlefnefs and ftertor ceafed. The patient fwallowed now, from time to time, a little gruel, and no fit recurred for four or five hours. When Dr Fitzgerald and I vifited her, early in the morning of the 2,5th, we found her fomewhat more fenfible to external im- preffions but the pupils of the eyes were ftill greatly dilated, the pulfe How, irregular, and opprelTed, and the fits were again beginning to recur at (horter intervals. A frefh blifter was applied to the head, and ten drops of the faturated tindlure of digitalis were directed to be given every half hour till a copious dif- fharge of urine fhould be produced.
