![The general character of the defects found on inspec- tion may be classified as— a. EXTERNAL—faulty roofs, spouting, D traps and defect in drains. b. INTERNAL—defects in ceilings, floors, stairs and dirty walls, windows which could not be opened. All defects were, with two exceptions (where Closing Orders were made), in’omptly'remedied or are in course of being remedied after the making of informal notices. No case of overcrowding has been dealt with officially, but one case was remedied after informal action was taken. No house has been built or completed during the year, and no house is in course of erection. Two dilapidated or otherwise defective houses have been restored and made fit for human habitation. All new houses are erected in accordance with the Council’s Byelaws. C.—Sanitary Administration in the District. a. The Officials aie a Medical Officer of Health and a Sanitary Inspector. b. The Hospital accommodation for Infectious Diseases consists of beds in the Caine and District Isolation Hospital where cases of Scarlet Fever, Diphtheria and Typhoid Fever can be isolated and treated. The Staff of the Hospital consists of a Medical Super- intendent, a Caretaker and Matron. Nurses are obtained when required. The Sanitary Inspector superintends the removal of patients to the Hospital. They are removed in an ambulance carriage which is disinfected after each removal.
