Influenza was the registered cause of 70 deaths during the year, as con trasted with 81 in the preceding year, and an average of 76 in the 11 years 1898-1908. The returns show that 36 deaths occurred in the first quarter, 19 in the second, 4 in the third, and 11 in the fourth, and that the largest number '20) of them occurred between 65 and 75 years of age, thus showing that the disease is particularly fatal to old people.
