About this work

Description

This Panorama documentary looks at the progress of 53-year-old Chris's dementia and is filmed over a two-year period using a mixture of formats including video diary entries, seven hidden cameras in Chris's family home and filmed interviews. Chris has vascular dementia and young onset Alzheimers and was diagnosed at the age of fifty. We see him undergo medical assessments and visit the care home that he has chosen for himself as part of his care plan, he writes his own lasting power of attorney and a living will. Throughout, despite his failing memory, Chris is articulate about what is happening to him and keen to hold onto his life as much as possible. His wife and daughters also talk about how they have adapted to his illness in their daily lives as well as their fears for the future. Particularly poignant are Chris's own video diaries and he describes his feelings about dementia and confesses that, "the person I miss most is me."
