![Chapter J+68, Laws of 1897. An ACT to amend chapter twenty-three of the laws of seventeen hundred and ninety-nine entitled 11 An ACT to incorporate the Society of the Lying-In Hospital of the City of New York” relative to subscriptions, the election of subscribers as members, and the elections of physicians and surgeons. Became a law May 17, 1897, with the approval of the Governor; passed three-fifths being present. The people of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly do enact as follows: Sec. 1. Section two of chapter twenty-three of the laws of seventeen hundred and ninety-nine, is hereby amended so as to read as follows: Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, that all persons who now are members of the said institution, or shall at any time hereafter subscribe to the same, shall be deemed and taken as members of this corporation provided such subscription is received by the society, and such sub¬ scribers are elected members of the said society by the board of governors thereof, in such manner as shall be provided by the by-laws of the said society; and that the property and concerns of the said corporation shall be managed and conducted by thirteen governors, to be chosen by ballot by a majority of the governors from the said subscribers. Sec. 2. Section five of said act is hereby amended so as to read as follows: Sec. 5. And be it further enacted, that the governors of the said society, or a majority of them, shall immediately after the annual meeting of the society in each year, elect by ballot such and so many physicians and surgeons as they shall judge necessary to attend the said hospital, and to render all necessary medical aid to the persons admitted to the benefit of this institution; and in case of a vacancy or vacancies, to elect other physicians or surgeons in their places.
