![The Board of Governors of The Society of the Lying- In Hospital submits herewith its report for the 132nd fiscal year of the Society, ending December 31,1930. The amount of the maternity service rendered by the institution during the year is only slightly less than the record of the preceding year, and has been characterized by the notably high standard of efficiency with which this service has always been performed. The educa¬ tional work of the Hospital has been about the same in amount. For these most gratifying results in an economic period of extraordinary difficulty the Gover¬ nors are deeply indebted to the members of the medical and hospital staffs. Our distinguished Chief Surgeon, Dr. Asa B. Davis, in his report for 1929, described with some detail the operations of the institution during preceding years, and in the Governors’ report for that year a special tribute to his able and devoted accomplishment was set forth. To our great sorrow, on August 13th, 1930, Dr. Davis’ immensely valuable life came to an end. His impressive funeral service was held in St. George’s Church, Stuyvesant Square, on the morning of Friday, August 15th, and was largely attended. To succeed Dr. Davis, Dr. James A. Harrar, our senior Attending Surgeon, was elected Chief Surgeon.
