This recording is of interviews with former colleagues and pupils of pioneering cardiologist, Sir Thomas Lewis. The interviews were conducted by Dr. Arthur Hollman in preparation for his biography on Lewis: 'Sir Thomas Lewis: pioneer cardiologist and clinical scientist', London; New York: Springer, c1996. Hollman, a cardiologist who worked with Lewis in the 1940s, interviews Lord Basil William Amulree, 6 November 1974, about his time as a student with Lewis [the beginning and end of this recording is missed off]. Wilfred Robert Trotter talks to Hollman, 27 November 1974. Trotter's father was a colleague of Lewis and the younger Trotter was a student of Lewis at University College Hospital in 1932. Hollman interviews Sir Harold Himsworth 10 October 1974 [beginning and end of recording missed off] who worked with Lewis, 1933-1945. He then interviews Dr. Arthur Morris [?] [no date given for interview] who worked with Lewis in 1914 at Hammersmith Hospital.

This tape is part of a collection donated to Wellcome Trust by Dr. Arthur Hollman in 2007. The tapes contain oral history interviews conducted by Dr Hollman between 1974 and 1990 with a grant from the Wellcome Trust. The interviews are largely with former colleagues and pupils of Sir Thomas Lewis and two are with Lady Lewis. They provide an invaluable source of first-hand information about Lewis and the medical world during his time, with personal recollections going back as far as 1920.
