In July, 1891, the Trustees of the Lewisham Parochial Charities granted £1,500 towards the buildingf und, £500 being retained till the library should be in working order. No works have been commenced asyet. A. temporary newsroom was opened at Lewisham in December, 1892, but was closed in June, 1897. 86 265 132o 636 76 67 133 503i — I — — - The freehold of this library was pre- sented to the parish in October, 1890. together with about 2,500 volumes. The building had originally been carried on privately as a lecture hall and library. This site was presented to the parish in December, 1890, and a donation of £1,000 was received towards the building fund. This sum remains in- vested in consols, as no works have been commenced as yet. The total cost of purchase and altera- tions amounted to £1,850, towards which a loan ot £1,600 has been bor- rowed and donations of £130 re- ceived. 1 - A loan of £1,300 has recently been borrowed for the purchase of this site.
