![HOUSING The ‘‘various District Councils are the Housing Authorities and are primarily concerned with this serious problem. Imt the Ccnmty Council, as the Health .\uthority, is also inextr.cab'v involved, for environment, whether at home or place of employment, influences the health of the community. Housing Authorities have taken their responsibilities conscientiously and have succeeded in building an appreciable number of dwellings but simultaneously many o'd houses are reaching an advanced stage (^f decay. In the industrial areas where, in the past, building has been un])lanned and sporadic, housing conditions exist which are inimical to health; not only because of the disrepair of the houses, but a'so due to the unsatisfactory arrangement of the neighbour- hood. Because of the long housing waiting list, the demolition of these sub-standard houses will have to be deferred, or otherwise the new houses would quickly become as t)ver- crowded as the old. A Joint County Housing .Advisory Committee was established in 194d and a comprehensive survey of existing houses was planned. The information gleaned from such a survey would assist all Authorities to determine the need and integrate their plans.
