The risk of primary vaccination in infancy is negligible, but for an adult who is vaccinated for the first time inconvenience may be quite considerable. Since Internationa] Certificates of Vaccination are required for travel to almost any part of the world, the advantages of the primary vaccination attended by little or no inconvenience, with a revaccination done in adult life, should outweigh any arguments against smallpox protection. There are also large areas of the world where smallpox is still an endemic disease, and the risk of bringing in the illness through air travel is still a very real one.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29780883_0018.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
