Tt must soi've to elucidate the ])ast forms of civilization out of which the ])resent ai’ose, to evolve order out of the modern world, and to indicate the broad lines of the order we are slowly evolving. 7. —it must j)resent a pnrehj nhjectire rieir of man, as a whole, while allowing for the subjeetire expression of any individual using it. S.—It must show the thread of common meaning and action that lies in the activities of the C^osmos as far as we know them, Society and the Individual. It must instore, that is, a Unity we have lost. 9. —It must contain within itself, through the use of its Analysis, the germs of a bu'tjt'r Synthesis which shall eventually replace its own. 10. —It must be capalde of application to any private business, public business, or individual problem. It must have, that is, a core of Uniformity of method and an infinite Variety f>f a])plication of that Uniformity. IP—Xt must be capable of creating useful results in exact proportion to the alhlity of the man using it, and yet it must also 1)6 capable of lieing used by a clerk trained to use it in a purely mechanical manner.
