Bound in full morocco, folio. £750 A most interesting and historical series of letters and documents relating to the surrender of the King by the Scotch Army, his detention at Holdenby House by Parliament, his seizure by Cornet Joyce under Cromwell’s orders, and further the negotiations between King Charles, the Parliament, and the Army. The Collection comprises : — CHAREES I. DOGUMEN I. SIGNED, BY. THE-KING. 4 pages. Holmby, 12th May, 1647. & An extremely interesting document, in which the King offers to resign the command of the Militia for ten years, and agrees to the establishment of Presby- terianism for three years, permission being granted to himself and his household to use the Book of Common Prayer. CHAREES, & AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (partly in cypher). #-page, 4to. Woburn, 27th July, 1647. Entirely in the King’s hand, with several words in cypher. ‘‘T have nothing of that secresie at this tyme to wryte unto you wch does much require the use of a cyfer, for the theame of this is only kyndenesse to my frends, desyring you to assure all your fellow sufferers for me, that I shall be as faithfull to them, as their owen harts can wish; yet, I confess there are degrees amongst you, of weh, on my word, you ar in the first ranke, as also Lo: Cottington and Sr. KE. H., there being some, but few, others: I thanke you for your adver- tisements, of wch I shall make good use and doe you no harme: business of im- portance makes me now end this letter.’’
