![psalms with litany (foil. 73, 88). Before the calendar are six minia- tures, of saints (foil. 1-6), in Lauds are suffrages (fol. 42, cf. 71^): the rubrics are in French. There are several good miniatures within capitals, grotesques and borders. The two warriors on fol. i bear, one the arms of St. George of England, and the other the arms of England with a label of five points azure each charged with a fleur-de-lys (?), which may be the arms of Edmund Crouchback earl of Lancaster, 2nd son of Henry III {d. 1296). The i8th cent, binding of red morocco with gold ornament bears ‘R. G.’ Now MS. Douce 231. 21806. In English and Latin, on parchment: written in the 15th cent. 6^ X 5i in., iii + 30 leaves. The Seven Penitential Psalms, paraphrased in English verse : deg. ‘ Domine, ne in furore tuo . . . Lord in thyn angre vnder take me now3t ’: each section is headed by the Latin. The paraphrase has been ascribed to Richard Rolle of Hampole and Richard Maydestone. On fol. 28 ‘Este libar constat Welliam Dyer’ (i6th cent.). ‘ F. Douce 1827, the gift of M’' Laing.’ [On f. i, Z. Boyd, i.e. Zachary Boyd, author of ‘ The Psalmes of David in meeter,’ 3rd ed., Glasg., 1646. E. W. B. N.] Now MS. Douce 232, 21807. In English, on paper: written in about A D. 1600: I2|x8q in., 42 leaves: imperfect. Part of a general treatise on ‘ the state of Religion in these western parts of the world,’ dealing with the Church of Rome, and addressed to the archbp. of Canterbury : deg. ‘ My singular good Lord, having finished now my entended course’: ends ‘the famous ladie of,’ some leaves being lost. It is written from the Protestant point of view, but temperately, and deals with the condition and organization of the Church, not its doctrine. Internal evidence shows that the date is just about a. d. 1600. Now MS. Douce 233. 21808. In Latin, on paper: written soon after 1597 ' L + 68 leaves. Three Latin comedies acted at Cambridge, 1596-7 :— 1 (fol. i). ‘ Silvanus,’ acted Jan. 13, ‘ 1596’: with names of actors. Some music is on fol. 15. The name of ‘ Anthonius Rollinson ’ (erased) is on fol. iv^, and may indicate the author. 2 (fol. 15^). ‘Hispanus,’ acted at the Comitia of 1596 : with names of actors, and corrections which are continued on foil. 59-65. 3 (fol. 40^). ‘ Machiavellus,’ acted Dec. 9, 1597 : with names of actors, but a leaf or two are wanting at the end after fol. 58.
