Now MSS. Pigott d. 19-21. 23448. In French, &c., on paper: written in 1807-40: I2fx9|in., ii + 493 leaves. Letters, chiefly addressed to miss H. Pigott in 1807-40, arranged chronologically : almost all in French and illustrating French political history : some have been printed in miss Pigott’s Records of Real Life. Among them are many from S. C. Capadoce, from 1815 (fol. 15, &c.), and some from Helene and Louise contesses de Hatzfeldt in 1818 (foil. 107, loo, &c.), Emilie baronne de St. Genies, from 1818 (fol. 119, &c.), and mrs. Harriet Pigott (aunt of miss Pigott), 1818-23 (fol. 137, &c.). Now MS. Pigott c. 5. 23449. In English, on paper: written in 1819-41 : 11x9 in., 94 leaves. A few letters and notes, and some printed extracts, chiefly criticisms of miss Pigott’s works, especially the Records of Real Life and the Pilgrimage from Fontainbleau. At fol. 72 is an account of a skirmish with the editor of the Athenceum, which noticed the former work on Feb. 22, 1840. Now MS. Pigott d. 25. 23450. In English, &c., on paper: written in about 1820-42, partly by miss Pigott: io| X 9f in., ii + 158 leaves. ‘ Miscellaneous biographical and topographical notes [each] alpha- betically arranged (1830-1842)’; a modern title: these are notes and anecdotes made by, or sent to, miss Pigott and chiefly used in her two books Private Correspondence and Records of Real Life. Among the biographical notes are some relating to Benjamin Bathurst {d. 1809 ; fol. 26), George Campbell, son of — Campbell of Calder (fol. 31), Charles I (fol. 44), Hamilton family (fol. 58), lord Hill {d. 1842 : fol. 61), Macdonell family (fol. 78), circumstances leading to the duel between mr. Stapleton and major-gen. Lewis Moore, 1832 (fol. 88), miss H. Pigott herself, 1831, &c. (fol. 96), Narinska de Schouvaloff, in French (fol. 107), John Walmesley (i8th cent.: fol. 128), Williams family of Eaton, Salop (fol. 130). There are notes on German places at fol. 132, and on Italian at fol. 149: at fol. 140 is a Legend of Charndon Oak, CO.
