    which I could not account for ; and that her cafe might not terminate fo favorably; yet as (he was fo anxious, I promifed her that I would treat her cafe as fimilarly to Mrs B’s as the nature of the difeafe would admit; and that every relative care fhould be taken of her, during the treatment, which circumftances might didate. To this offer fhe heartily gave her confent, and I accordingly took the charge of her. To convey a clearer idea of the whole of this cafe, I fhall relate her previous hiftory ; the ftate fhe was in, when I commenced my attendance, and the appearances through the different ftages, to the termination. Her life was fpent in fervice. She had been much troubled with chronic rheuma- tifm, a complaint to which the family had a pre- difpofition; one of her filters having had it to fuch a degree, as to have mifplaced moft of the joints of her hands. The menftrual flux ceafed with her about two years ago; after which fhe enjoyed a much better ftate of health, than fhe had ever done previoufly to that period. All her rheumatic pains had left her, and fhe thought herfelf per¬ fectly well. Alas! how tranfient is health, or happinefs; the equal diffufion of healthy adion, and agreeable fenfation, through the whole fyftem, iafted little longer than a twelvemonth! This equal adion was followed by the torpor, obftruc- tion.
