![The number ol complaints reported to the Council was 10 and 122 nuisances were abated. 00 preliminary notices were served, and 2o statutory notices, but no legal proceedings were necessary. Other inspections have bee]i carried out as follows :■— Lodging Houses .. Slaughter-houses.. Bakehouses Dairies, cowsheds, Workshops Number to be laspectod. 4 8 and milkshops 12 15 Number Total number Inspected, of Inspections. 2 ... 70 4 ... 2(l8 8 ... 82 12 ... 48 15 ... 30 Tlie water supply at each of the four Ihiblic Elementary Schools in the District remains as before. Infectious cases are notified to me by tlie liead teacliers, and such cases are afterwards visited by myself or the Sanitary Inspectoi’, and after*satisfying myself that the children are absent for the reasons given, the forms are signed and forwarded to the School IMedical Officer. The sanitary conditioiis of the Schools are satisfactory. FOODS. Milk Supply.—Idle supply of milk, on the whole, may be re- garded as being quite wholesome. A portion of this supply comes from farms lying outside the District. Inspections of the cowsheds show that the cows are kept under good conditions, but all those who are concerned in the handling of the milk supply cannot be too careful in the matter of cleanliness. No legal proceedings have been taken in the year, but there liaA^e been two surrenders of un- sound food GENERAL. The road wdiich forms the onl^' approach to the Scowles is still in the same condition as when I mentioned it in my last report. The large pieces of rock which jut out of th.e ground in places make the road dangerous, especialh' in wet weather. Campbell Itoad, IMachen Load, and Howard lioad, in the I^ane End District are also in very bad condition, as also are the Eorest and Edenwall Loads, in the Milkwall Histrict. VITAL STATISTICS. During the 3ear 73 births were registered belonging to the District.
