![INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD. There were 75G visits made to 103 Registered Cowsheds and 172 visits to dairies and inilkshops. Structural improvements were made to <lairy jiremises at one farm during the year, vSeventy-seven samples of undesignated milk were obtained for cleanliness' tests, 21 of these failed to pass the tests prescribed for “Accredited Alilk.” Thirty-four samples of milk were obtained front bulk suyjplies produced at various farms and sulunitted for examinatioii for the presence of tubercle bacilli, in two cases positive reports were received. One sample of “ Pasteurised ” milk was examined and f<nind free from tubercle, 'There were thirteen licensed producers of .Vccredited iMilk at the end of the year; five of these were also licensed to bottle milk at the farm. In addition one dair}' is licensed to pasteurise milk, one supplementarv licence was granted to sell Pasteurised milk and one for the sale of 'i'uberculin 'Tested milk. T'orly-nine samples of Accredited milk and four sam]:)Ies of Pasteurised milk were taken for srdjmission to the relevant tests, 30 Accredited samples and 3 Pasteurised samjdes were reported satisfactory. Four samples of Pasteurised milk were submitted to the j^hosphotase tests and were reported satisfactory. 'i'he Divisional Veterinarv Inspector <■)! the TMinistry of Agriculture and l-'isheries rejtorted 109 visits of inspection to dain.* herds at 56 dairy farms in the Borough during the year, resulting in the removal and slaughter of one bull and five dairy cows suffering from tuberculosis. 3'wo of the cows were inspected as a result of samples of milk taken during retail deliveries in the street> of the town, which were rejjorted to be “ Positive ” by the pathfjlogist ami were subsequently notified to the Ministr}’ of Agriculture and Fisheiies under the provisions of the 'Tuberculosis Order, 1938. During the year, 1,907 carca.ses required a detailed ex.amination, and of these 678 were affected with 'Tuberculosis in v.'ir}'ing degree as follows: —Bulls 51.72 per cent., steers 5.97 ])er cent., heifers 7.09 per cent., cows iO.Ot; ]>er cent., pigs 11.-13 per cent. 'The whole carcases of 5 l.>ea^ts, 1 calf and 23 sheej) were condemned, for causes oth.er than tuberculosis. 'The total amount of meat found on ins])eclion to be unfit for human food was 9.95 per dent. f)f the total amount slaughtered.
