![[ 3' ] volume, clear of all other expences; but this is by no means the fact. Dr. Cullen has omitted freight and charges from Leith, and infurance in time of war, ivarehouje- rent, inter eft of money, (for Mr. Murray- had no credit given him) bad debts, and above all advertiftng. Every one of thefe items fell upon Mr. Murray, and adver- tifing alone coft him ten guineas. For although the literary property of the book remained with the author, he would not defray one penny of this expence, which all other authors, in fimilar circumftances, ufually do. Will Mr. Murray then be ac- cufed of extortion, when it is known that, after all thefe deductions, he retailed the book to the trade in London at 4*. \d. per volume. His neat profits therefore, at- tended with the rifque of bad debts, 6cc. mull: have been from 2d. to 3^. per vo- lume. Let Dr. Cullen's brother phyfi- cians, Doctors Monro, Duncan, Gregory, Home, and Hamilton, 5cc. 6cc. at Edin- burgh, be alked, if in their dealings they ever efteemed that bookfellers impofed upon them for exacting larger profits than D this ?](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b22281873_0035.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
