About this work

Description

Discusses a concept of breathlessness based on psychological studies. Breathlessness is considered not in terms of respiratory mechanisms, such as abnormalities of the blood gases, but as a proprioceptive sensation arising from the physical act of breathing. Groups of patients illustrate the two main types of breathlessness - mechanical difficulty and excessive amount of breathing - and their common causes.
