![condenser being connected, apply heat so as to distil over about Oiv of liquid. Saturate this exactly with Oj or q. s. of solu- tion of caustic soda, separate from the oil, which floats on the surface, and evaporate till the residual salt is partially liquefied. The heat should now be withdrawn, and when the salt has con- creted, while still warm, it is to be divided into fragments, and preserved in well-stopped bottles. [Chiefly used for obtaining the other valerianates.] Solutio Aperiens. Prof. Mettauer. Socotrine aloes giiss, bicarbonate of soda §vj, water Oiv, compound spirit of laven- der f^ij. Digest for 14 days and decant. Dose, f3J or more half an hour after dinner and supper. Solutio Argenti Nitratis Concentrata. Mr. Higginbot- tom. Dissolve 9iv of nitrate of silver in fjiv of distilled water. To be applied by a small sponge (1 inch by £) on a silver probe. [Instead of solid caustic in Erysipelas, &c.j Solutio Arseniatis Ammonia and Solutio Arseniatis Sod^e. See Liquor Arseniatis Ammonias, &c. Solutio Arsenicalis Acida. Cut. H. Arsenious acid 3iiss, hydrochloric acid ^ss, water f^xxxiiss. Boil till the arsenic is dissolved, and add 3J of syrup of saffron. Make it up f^xxxiv. Dose, irjjiij to irj^ vj. Solutio Arsenicalis Alkalina. Cut. H. Arsenious acid 3iiss, solution of potash ^j, water f^xxxij. Boil till dissolved, then add ^j of comp. tincture of lavender, and water to make up ^xxxiv. Dose, ti^iij to ttjjvj. Solutio Auri Ammonio-chloridi. Furnari. Ammonio- chloride of gold gr. x, distilled water and rectified spirit, each ^xiiss. Dose, a teaspoonful morning and evening, in sugared water; against dysmenorrJioea and amenorrhea. Solutio Baryta Muriatis. E. Muriate of baryta (chloride of barium) 3J> distilled water $$] : dissolve. Solutio Camphors e Chloroformo. Messrs. T. & H. Smith. Camphor 3iijj chloroform f^j. Dissolve.
