![Theriaca Edinenis. E. 1744. Serpentary, valerian, contra- yerva, each Jiv; aromatic powder ^iij, guaiacum resin ^ij, castor §ij, nutmeg gij, saffron ^j, opium ^j, clarified honey %\xxv. Dissolve the opium in a little wine, and mix it with the other dry ingredients in powder, and the honey. It con- tains 1 gr. of opium in 100. Most of the foreign formulas for Theriaca contain sulphate of iron. Thridacium. Thridace. This name is applied both to Lettuce Opium (Lactucarium), and to the extract of the stalks (Extr. Latucae Concentratum). Tinctura Abelmoschi Seminum. Dr. E. Reece. Musk seed ^ij, proof spirit f^xvj. Digest seven days, and strain. Dose, m- Tinctura Acaroidis. * Botany-bay resin ^j, rectified spirit Jviij. Tinctura Aconiti. L. (Tinct. Aconiti Eadicis, D., and U. S.) L. Coarsely powdered aconite root ^xv, rectified spirit Oij. Ma- cerate for 7 days, express, and filter. [This is nearly as strong as Dr. Turnbuli/s Tine. Aconiti Concentrata. Dose, ir^v to ix, but chiefly for outward use.] D. Dried aconite root cut small 10 oz., rectified spirit Oj; macerate for 14 days, express, and filter. [This is stronger than the last. Dose, irj?iv to viij, with caution. The following are also in use : U. S. Bruised aconite root ft>j, rectified spirit f^xxxij. Macerate for 14 days, express strongly, and filter. Dose, as L. Dr. Fleming. Macerate ^xvj of the powdered root with f^xvj of rectified spirit for 4 days; strain, and treat the aconite by percolation with more spirit, until the tincture obtained amounts to f^xxiv. As an anodyne, aneuralgic, and calmative, Dr. F. gives ^iij 3 times a day, increasing the dose one minim daily, if required. As an antiphlogistic he gives irjjv, repeated in 4 hours, and afterwards half the dose, if required. Its effects must be carefully watched. Dr. Turnbull's Tine. Eadicis Aconiti Concentrata is made by digesting the powdered root with twice its weight of rectified spirit, for 7 days. For outward use. Dr. Pereira directs Ibj of the root to Oiss of spirit, which is nearly identical with Dr. Turnbull's. Dose as L. above. Dr. Turnbull has also de- scribed a weaker tincture—^j of the powdered root to f^vj of rect. spirit. Dose, from 10 drops.] Tinctura Aromatica Acida. Prus. Ph.
