    I 8. Nothing conduces more to Health I and Long Life, than Abflinence and plain Food, with due Labour. 9. Where Exercife is wanting (as in jiudious Perfons) there is the greater Need of Abflinence; for thefe, 8 Ounces of animal, and 12 of 'vegetable Food in 24 Flours, is fufficient. 10. Moft chronical Difeafes proceed from Repletion, as appears from their being cured by Evacuation. 11. Tender Perfons ought to ufc as much Abflinence, as they poffibly can : And, if they neglcft it, their only Re¬ lief is from frequent ftomachick and Fa- mily-Rurges. 12. A plain Rule for judging of the Quantity is, not to eat fo much as in- difpofes for Bujinefs. 13. A more fenfible and readier one is, firft by Experience to find out how much fits one, fo as to be lightfome and healthy under it, and ever after to judge the Quantity by the Eye •, Nature requir¬ ing therein no mathematical Exa&nefs. 14. Fork and Fifh are not fit Food for the Studious and the Tender. 15. Water is the moil natural and whole feme of ail ‘Drinks, quickens the Appetite, and ftrengthens the Digeflton moft. 16. Strong
