Lip. Asti-Gas and Fire Protection — % LLOYDS AVERUE, £.C,3 The Smelling Case contains phials in which a small glass tube, open at the lower end, is fixed to the stopper. This small tube is filled with glass wool which is impregnated with a very small quantity of the actual substance in question. To test the smell, the screw top of the phial is loosened and the inner tube withdrawn a little Only those lquid substances which ‘have a ona odour can be demonstrated by means of these smelling cases. Phosgene, which is a gas at ordinary temperature, can also be demonstrated in a similar manner by the use of a tube in which there are 15 small capillary tubes, in each of which there is a minute quantity of a solution of Phosgene in an organic solvent.
