Recipe book of Standon Rectory, Staffordshire containing medical and household recipes written in one hand.Includes several recipes for coughs, and short recipes for pomatum, toothache, diarrhoea, for rheumatism, mumps, bruises or chilblains, for hooping cough, an alserative [ulcerative] for a child during teething, to kill flies, cold cream, gargle for sore throat, healing ointment, eye water, for boils, scent bags, for a sprain, Mrs Buchanan's sore throat and boil plaister, and chiretta.Only the first 12 pages of the volume have been used. The recipes do not appear to be arranged in any particular order and there is no index.Loose at the front of the volume: 8 undated culinary recipes written in several hands. Includes recipes for Irish bread, Scotch scones, ginger wine, and Miss Black's receipt for marmalade, written in the hand of Mrs Joseph Salt. Also includes a note signed by Mrs Joseph Salt stating 'if the child be very ill, its back should be rubbed with warm rum before the fire every night.'
