About this work

Description

A subject of huge importance in China, particularly in the countryside where the management of human and animal waste had traditionally been neglected through lack of education and indifference. Such waste was also used as a fertilizer and measures were needed to neutralize bacteria and parasites present in it. These posters from the early 1960s formed part of a rural health education programme by the Chinese governent aimed at raising the level of knowledge amongst the rural population concerning such matters and thereby reducing the level of disease thus caused. They show simple and effective sanitary measures that were easy to implement
