Never fatisfied with what nature, equally beneficent at all times, affords, they feldom mifs an occafion to fteal what- ever they can from houfes, or at leaft to maraud in the gardens and cultivated lands. However, as they run fome rifque in fuch excurfions, and as they are acquaint- ed with many of the precautions taken againft them, either by inftind or expe- rience, from which they have fometimes had fevere leffons, every thing is conducted with the greateft order. Some of them, that, no doubt, are entitled to a fhare, fquat among the rocks, or on the tops of trees, hiding themfelves among the branches, fo as to lee without being leen, where they very carefully keep watch, while the reft tranfad their bufinefs. At the leaft appearance of danger the guard gives a jfhrill cry, and the robbers immediately efcape with hands and mouths as full as pofiible. Many
