A Scirrhus may be denominated benign, fo long as it continues moveable, is fmall, not very hard, nor fcabrous, the Veftels notbecomevaricofe, the Tumour not painful or inflamed, in a good Habit of Body, arifing from an external Caufe, fo fituated as not to be ex- pofed to any Irritation from the neceflary and unavoidable Motions of the Body, or any par¬ ticular Part, and where there maybe an eafy Appl ication of topical Affiftance: Such a Scirrhus may be gently handled without caufing Pain, as the neighbouring Parts preferve their natural Tone, and the Circulation of the Fluids in them? is equable, and undifturbed* Sect. V. A Scirrhus is of an unfavourable Kind, when it happens in a bad Habit of Bo¬ dy, grows large, rough, uneven, begins to fihoot, and give Pain ; when the Veins appear varicous, or knotty, or when the offending Humours, which wrere before at Reft, are li¬ able to be agitated, and put in Motion, from any Caufe ’whatever.
