When these musclesare removed, we come to the bulb of the urethra and the second layer of fascia, which is called the triangular ligament or septum perinei. It is attached to the branches of the ossa pubis and of the ischia on each side: at these attach- ments it is disposed as a simple aponeuro- sis ; but, anteriorly and posteriorly, its dis- position is more intricate. In the latter direction, when opposite the back edge of the transversi perinzei muscles, it becomes blended with the superficial perinzeal fas- cia on the one hand, and with a fascia-form layer lining the external surface of the le- vatores ani, on the other. By means of this last layer it may be said to be reflected up to the origin of the levatores ani, and by means of the first, it winds round the rec- tum to be attached to the neighbouring part of the margin of the pelvis, namely, the sciatic ligaments and coccyx.
