    DR DEWAR’S PATENT VULCANITE SPRAT PRODUCER, FOR APPLYING SULPHUROUS ACID SPRAY IN AFFECTIONS OF THE THROAT AND LUNGS, MANUFACTURED ONLY BY DAVID STORRAR, CHEMIST, KIRKCALDY. “This instrument consists of an odorateur tube fitted, into a cork, which can be put into a bottle of strong Sulphurous Acid. A constant current ol air, impelled by a double india-rubber ball, as in Dr Richardsons Spray-pi o- ducer for local anoestliesis, raises a minute jet through the odorati ur tube, and propels it against the throat, or wherever else it may be wanted. \\ c have tried Dr Dewar’s system on many persons of all ages during the past month, and can certify that, despite the suffocating odour of the Sulphurous Acid when smelled in bulk in the bottle, the spray is singularly agreeable and soothing to the throat; and we thank Dr Dewar for having grv en the Profession a remedy so useful in the various asthenic and cachectic maladies of the fauces and trachea.”—Medical Times and Gazette, 15th June IS61. The simple operation is thus conducted:—Hold the nozzle of the instill- ment about six inches from the patient’s mouth, and administer three or lour “whiffs” to begin with; then, after an interval of a few seconds, during which a cough or two is given, the same thing is reputed, amounting to about twenty squeezes in all, which represents the injection °/ *Ictm , • t0 sixty minims of Sulphurous. Acid. [The Acid should be pure (lint. Pharnu), care to be taken that the direction of the points is not disturbed ; the one open- ing blowing exactly over the other. Should they get plugged, a bristle e passed through the openings, or dip the points in water and such baclrwaids. \
