![It is thus evident that about one-half of the cases of twist took place at the sigmoid flexure, and that nearly one-third of them were present in the ileo- csecal region. It is further evident that, for all practical purposes, 87 % of the cases occurred in the large intestine. An absolute diagnosis of volvulus is only to be made by abdominal section, either before or after death. Death is, therefore, to be regarded as the probable result of this lesion unless the surgeon affords relief. This statement is made despite the fact that in five of the cases there was the previous history of a similar attack.
