It is not enough to say that there is no difference in kind, but simply one in de- gree,— that the years of boyhood are calm and happy, and that those of girlhood are so likewise, — that the former resemble the gairish sunshine, and the latter the mitigated splendor of the moon ; for the characters of boys seem to be struck in a sharper die than those of ]STo. 9. girls, which gives them an absoluteness quite dis- tinct from the feminine grace we naturally look for in the latter.
