About this work

Description

"Two years ago I had an idea for a photoshoot and the photographer suggested I try on a wedding dress he had spare. I was engaged at the time and thought it might be fun to mess around with, but when I put it on it fit perfectly and I suddenly realised I was going to be a bride and get married - all the weight of that hit me. I started to become ill. My relationship with my fiancé broke down and he left. The photograph taken at the shoot (right) haunted me and I decided to buy a wedding dress and try to make sense of the loss of my fiancé through performance art. I did a photoshoot in my back garden (next page) but was still too traumatised to know how to proceed. I ended up spending several months in hospital and was eventually diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality disorder. When I came back to art college I brought the dress and images with me and started to research performance art and the use of personal trauma in one's work. That journey is covered within this booklet."--From page [5].
