    Such was her condition till the month of Sep- tember. At this time, her health, which had been hitherto but little affedted, began rapidly to de- cline j and, at the beginning of this month, (November), llie was under the neceffity of keeping her bed altogether. The pain was become confiderably more violent. She pair- ed reftlefs nights, and her appetite totally left her. Hedtic fymptoms foon made their ap- pearance ; with a fmall, quick, and feeble pulfe, and a diarrhaea took place, which was fucceeded, on the following day by nau- fea and vomiting, immediately upon the re- ception of food into the ftomach. An emetic was exhibited, with a view to remove the caufe of the ficknefs, but without fuccefs. Inflead of pus, the abfcefs difchar- ged a thin ichorous fluid of a dark colour, and offenflve fmell; which, by its acrimony, excoriated every part with which it came in contact. All thefe fymptoms gradually increafed in violence ; till the patient, being no longer able to fullain the very great degree of irrita- tion, the want of nourilhment, and the ex- C c 2 ceflive
