This Department is anxiously awaiting a promised lead from Central Governiaont, which has not yet matorialised. WATAR- SUPPLIAS. The City water supply is examined hacteriologically re,galarly; during the year a total of 65 samples v/ore tahen. For a period in mid-year the lahoratory results revealed that the v/ater soipply was far from satisfactoryj hut it is satisfying to record that for the past fo'r i.ionths the customary high standard of purity has heen again reached and maintained. Fourteen sai;iples of sv/iixiing hath v/ater were taken and v/ere found to he of a satisfactory standard of nuritj, SEANR/iGA .AID DRAllllGE. The Department continues to 'press, wherev^er ‘possihlo, for the installation of water homo seworago, BUILDING .AID DPAINAGB PLANS, All plans suhmittod to the Covincil for approval are passed to this Department 'for their comirients. During the year 540 plans wure examined; of 'uhese 63 were returned for amenctaent, PUBLIC G0NVENIENCB3. Public convcriiences are under the control of this Department and during the ye:ar Council ag:rced to the erection of a nunfoer of nev/ convorAcncos of v/hich two have heen completed and others are in course of erection.
