'I'he more sj-rious inflammatory and ulcerative disorders of the cornea were referred to the General Infirmary to be .seen by the (Ophthal- mologist. There were no cases of serious impairment of vision n-sulting fi’om thc.se (.lefects. (/). Defects of VioiOII. Defective vision is treated by a special clinic held on Fridays both in the forenoon and in part of the afternoon, and also on .sevcra.l miseellaneons days fixed by the Ofedical Officer from time to time. Xo charge is made for the ti'(-atinent, and if a ])re,sciiption for glasses be given, the.se can be obtained at a low [)rice. under a contract bct\\(-en a local optician and the education Committi*e. In necessitous eases, there is a fmid through which the Fflucation Committee relieves the parents of this expense. This fund was made use of for 19 cases in 1927. Continual re-inspeetioii is madi* of children hw whom glasses ari‘ eonsidcred to be neee.ssai'v, and strong pres.sure brought to bear to ohtaiii the glasses, and also to get them worn.
