[ 97 ] It yielded at length, after a continuance of four days, to large dofes of laudanum, given at every return of the complaint. r < A woman, pretty far advanced in pregnancy, died fuddenly; the complained, a few hours before death, of a pain in her heart, (as.fhe ex prefled it,) but which was not fo fevere as to draw the attention of the family, and as the lived at a diftance in the country, no applica¬ tion could be made for afliftance. Augujl.—Remittents continued to be the pre¬ vailing difeafes of the month. In the early part, the difeafe appeared to become lefs fre¬ quent, and the fymptoms were more mild; but the frequency of it increafed again to¬ wards the conclufion. The evening exacer¬ bations were very fevere, and were followed by extreme debility. In'addition to thefe complaints, feveral were affeCted with flight catarrhs,' and few efcaped more or lefs of coryza ; the fkin became hot and dry towards evening, with a degree of liftleflnefs and in¬ activity. Thefe fymptoms feldom lafted more than a few days, and required onfy mild fitdo- rifics and opiates.
