    Health for Scotland and the following amounts were used:— Alum Precipitated Toxoid (A.P.T.) 4240 c.c. Toxoid Antitoxin Floceules (T.A.F.) 318 c.c. The following covers the main items of expenditure:— Doctor’s Fees (at 2 guineas per session £172 4 0 Apparatus 40 5 0 Cards, leaflets, etc 2G 14 G Advertising, etc 17 18 0 £257 1 6 The Diphtheria Immunisation Campaign in the County has been a marked success, since 95 per cent, of the School children and 77 per cent, of the Pre-School children of immunisable age (9 months to 5 years) have been fully immunised against the disease. At clinics 12,214 single injections were given, an average of 145 per session. Approximately 7 per cent, of the children im- munised showed reactions of varying degree. In a very few cases only could the re-action be considered severe. Diphtheria Immunisation has now become one of the routine Public Health Services in the County. The success of a Campaign such as this, can be taken as an index of the interest of parents in the welfare of their children and of their progressive outlook in matters of health. I hope that the small number of parents wdio refused immunisation for their children will reconsider their decision. My warmest thanks go to Headmasters and teachers, whose personal interest contributed greatly to the success of the Scheme. I also would like to thank the General Practitioners, who were always ready to attend Clinics. The Women’s Voluntary Services merit my appreciation for the good work they did. Dysentery.—Fourteen cases of this disease were notified. Nine of the cases occurred in Clackmannan during April and May. Six were under 5 years of age, 2 were 5-10 years, and a woman aged 80 years died in Hospital. Symptoms were acute, and in 4 of the cases bacillus dysenteriae Flexner was isolated. In all cases diarrhoea was marked with blood and mucus in the stools. In spite of ext msive enquiries into articles of food eaten, no defin- ite source of infection was traced, as is often the case in small outbreaks of this nature. It is probable that one case infected 3 other members of the same household and in another family one member was directly infected by a case.
